Die Website zur Frankfurter Evolutionstheorie

Stand: Dezember 2022

The Frankfurt Evolution Theory – welcome to the website!

Published and reviewed: December 2022

On this site we compile publications and research contributions on the Frankfurt Theory of Evolution – a theory that emerged in the 1970s and that views and explains the history of evolution from a construction and morphological perspective. Besides a comprehensive collection of the papers published during the last 50 years, you will soon find a portrait of the scientific workgroup, further links, and in our store you will find some articles like the evolution poster (first published in the 1990ies and now, 2021, available in English for the first time), most relevant introductory literature, an audio book on the history of evolution etc. Enjoy!

The Frankfurt Evolution Theory is a working concept to reconstruct the course of the lines of evolution in the animal kingdom. It aims to provide explanations for the evolution of the fundamental body designs, that is, for the “bauplan evolution”. The focus is thus on animals’ body structures considered from a technical perspective, and on how these structures work.

Name, origin

The theoretical foundations and the reconstructions of evolutionary processes were first developed by scientists at the Senckenberg Research Institute, Frankfurt. The working method and outcomes differed from much which was known until then. They appeared to the biological science community as one entity and was summarily callerd the Frankfurt Evolution Theory. Under this name it became known, although the authors of this working concept had originally called it “Critical Theory of Evolution” although it has also been aptly named the “Organismic Theory of Evolution”. It is not directed against classical systematics and classical Darwinism, but goes beyond them in terms of work and results.
